Went here this past Saturday feeling really sick and just not well. It took 2 hours to get a steroid injection which is a little insane, but they were very attentive and helpful through the whole process.
I went last week to get a SANE exam (sexual assault nurse exam). The nurse who treated me was incredible. She made me feel so comfortable and safe and was extremely kind to me. However, during my pelvic exam, she asked a doctor to come check. The doctor allowed her male patient to walk into the room before her and never explicitly told him to leave or that he couldn't come in. I was in a hospital gown, my legs in stirrups, with a speculum inside me and a man in cargo shorts and a graphic tee shirt walked in. It was incredibly invasive and it felt as if my experience was being belittled by doctors who did not care to as so much tell their patients they can't walk into random rooms where women are receiving pelvic exams. Aside from this, the experience was as comfortable as it could have been. SANE exams are free and the nurse who treated me was a wonderful human being.
I usually have decent experiences with the SMC ER but Wednesday night was absolutely awful...
The woman who does the check ins was horribly rude. She threw a gown on the bed and a blanket and basically told me to change and walked out. I was freezing cold and was there for severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding. I have been having problems for months and I went to the ER because I was told to by my OB's nurse due to symptoms I was having.
I changed, then a student came in. Argued with me about the issues I reported. I told them of the huge piece of tissue I passed and the pain I was in. They argued saying it was a blood clot, even though they never saw it. Nurses were fine. Then the NP came and wanted to do an ultrasound. I just had one there a month ago when I was there for the same thing. But I agreed. After the ultrasound and waiting for hours the NP came back and basically told me the person who reads the ultrasounds hadn't answered but she "thinks" it's just a small cyst on my ovary. On the opposite side from what I was told the last time. She made me feel worse, minimizing my pain and symptoms. And arguing that what I passed was a blood clot. They never found out what was wrong and basically said "welp, go home." After the ultrasound I was in excruciating pain and had to ask for something. They never used the iv they placed, never even gave me fluids even though I hadn't eaten or drank anything for 12 hours by then. To top the whole thing off the person who came in and took out my iv was AWFUL. She ripped my iv out with the tape that held it down. All in one motion... then told me if I was lightheaded or anything I could come back. I reported when I got there I was LIGHTHEADED, nauseous, in a lot of pain, bleeding heavily, and passing tissue. They made it worse. I was in so much pain I missed work yesterday cause I could barely WALK. I will stay home next time or go somewhere else. I have never had such a poor experience at the ER, it's sad. I went for help and left worse than when I came.
I had my daughter here and was very VERY pleased with my care. Each nurse, and doctor who came to my room was very helpful, kind, and knowledgeable to our needs throughout our stay. They checked on us periodically and the bedside manner was phenominal! I hope if we should need to go again, we would continue to receive such excellent care from the teams available!
I was scheduled for a sleep study and had it paid for in full, ready to go. They called me to verify me going in and all the protocols. It came up that if I needed a c-pap during the study, an additional cost would be charged. As she breezes through all this, I stop her and ask her about the C-PAP charge because I sleep with a C-PAP every night, so I would probably need that. She told me that if I needed the C-PAP during my study, the cost would literally double. If the cost is going to jump thousands, that should be brought up and discussed in depth. I feel that it is very deceiving how it was handled and for someone who is on a fixed income or just doesn't have a lot of money. That could cripple them financially. If I hadn't asked and dug a little deeper, it would have never come up. I am not saying the people are bad at this location, but you should definitely ask questions and get answers because they do not seem to offer them up front. Also, being that they only comment on good reviews and don't address negative reviews, there must be something there. Anyway, I hope this helps someone.
The person at the desk was very nice and polite and I was seen immediately. The RN who treated me was also very nice, kind and caring - I appreciate her compassion. The doctor on staff told me she could not touch me due to who my surgeon was but the RN agreed to help me anyway.
Stillwater ER is horrible. Vomiting and terrible pain in waiting room for over 2 1/2 hours. No employee offered help. Another 2 1/2 hours waiting in a room. Yes, the doctor was pleasant and a few nurses. Overall experience was awful. Except for the doctor and a couple of nurses, they showed no compassion.
I had a wonderful experience here last night. Even through all the pain i was having (and all the pain I was causing talking to those poor nurses and doctors), they made it a most comfortable experience.
Thank you to Nurse Phillip, Dr. Zen and Ms. Richelle for having the best bedside manner with me and their patients. Truly saints at work.
